Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Budgio (budgio.nz) is a personal budgeting website I built for myself, and then shared in case it helps other people too. It is not a company product.
This page explains what information the site uses, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Who runs this
I run Budgio myself from New Zealand. The best way to reach me is by sending a Support ticket in the app after you sign in. There are no other public contact details on this site.
What information is used
Guest mode (not signed in)
Anything you enter stays in your browser on that device (local storage). I do not receive your budget contents while you stay in guest mode.
When you sign in with Google
If you sign in, the site uses:
- Your Google account basics — name, email address, and profile photo
- Budget data you enter — incomes, payments, savings goals, profiles, and settings — so it can sync across your devices
- Simple activity info — like when you were last active, and basic counts of budget items
- Support tickets — the subject, message, and your account details if you contact me through Support
Why that information is used
- To keep you signed in and sync your budget
- To reply if you send a support ticket
- To keep the site working and secure (including a small admin view of signed-in users and support tickets)
I do not sell personal information. I do not use your budget contents for advertising.
Where it is stored
Signed-in data is stored with Google Firebase (sign-in and database). That means it may be held on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States, under Google’s systems and terms.
Who can see it
- You — your own account and budget
- Me (site admin) — your name/email and basic usage info in the user list, plus any support tickets you send. I cannot open another person’s full budget in the app.
- Google — because Firebase provides sign-in and storage
How long it is kept
Signed-in account and budget data stays while the account is active. Support tickets may be kept so I can follow up. Guest data stays on your device until you clear this site’s data in your browser.
Your choices
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to:
- See the personal information held about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Ask for your account data to be deleted (send a Support ticket; a self-serve delete option may be added later)
You can also sign out any time, or keep using Budgio in guest mode without syncing to the cloud.
Cookies and local storage
Budgio uses local storage for guest budgets, theme preference, and similar settings. Google sign-in may also use cookies needed for authentication.
If something is wrong
Please send a Support ticket first so I can try to sort it out. If you are still not happy, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
Updates
I may update this page from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when I do.
